Our Mission Statement: Under the guidance of the Catholic Church, provide a safe home for all youth who have experienced physical or emotional trauma, where every act is done with love to help them discover the dignity of the human person and learn the skills to manage life’s challenges.
Our Philosophy Statement: Service to children and families, leadership in the child care field, and conviction to make a healthier and stronger world, characterize the philosophy of Home On The Range. This philosophy is built on a foundation of Catholic values and their mandate to bring healing and strength to wounded families and children. Home On The Range was established in 1950, when Father Elwood E. Cassedy and three boys moved into a granary converted to living quarters on the former ranch owned by Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. Lievens of Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. The couple gave their 960-acre ranch to Father Cassedy, after reading of his dream to establish a home for boys in the country. What followed was a flood of smaller contributions from interested individuals and groups willing to sacrifice for the “dream” to come true. Our Foundation
Looking ahead to the next 50 years of caring for children, the Home On The Range Board of Directors established a foundation in June of 1999. The foundation is to receive, invest and dispense proceeds to fund the services benefiting our boys and girls. Since such a large portion of our annual budget comes from private donations, it is crucial to plan for the ranch’s needs well in advance.
